It's a bit of a walk up to it, but worth the gentle climb. You can take half an hour to walk around it for the views. Other than the wall, though, you won't see much of the structure. If you're a military buff, pay...More

We had a day in Halifax from a cruise ship and decided not to do any of the excursions, instead we simply wandered round. After a lovely lobster roll at the Halifax Distillery (do pop in, it's an amazing place!), we walked up the hill...More

If you are into history, especially military history, check this out. The site is well-kept. They have uniformed reenactors on site. There is a cool museum in the second floor of the internal building covering the entire span of Canadian military history. We enjoyed a...More

Halifax Citadel, completed in 1856, is the fourth fort built on this site overlooking Halifax. After several wars emphasized the strategic importance of Halifax, the British realized that the previous wooden forts were not sufficient to guard against potential threats to Halifax and Canada as...More

I think we chose the steepest hill to climb up to the citadel from the water's edge (we were on a cruise ship) but felt better for having done so once we got our breath back! We were lucky and got there as they fired...More

A lot of history, great people to interact with inside, great exhibits which traversed a span of history. Clean, accessible for most areas. The changing of post at 4 pm was well worth the view from outside the front gate. (There is also a view...More

My husband and I visited the Halifax Citadel while vacationing in Nova Scotia. It was a beautiful day and nice to walk around the fort. You could see the city of Halifax from two points. We didn't get to hear any bagpipers, that would have...More

There is an elevator you can access in the info center/gift shop. The center is along the far back wall when you enter inside the citadel. Start there for info too.
