A very famous street goes back mainly to the 19th and 20th centuries. Was divided between the west and east Berlin after the ww2 and during the "cold war" until the reunification of the city, after the fall of the communist regime. A lot of...More

Worth a quick stop, but not much to see. Perhaps walk by as you explore the other shops and sights. I would not go out of my way to see the checkpoint.

American honky tonk around the former checkpoint. Also a good free exhibit. The East Berlin side is one of the most expensive shopping areas in Berlin. In one of those ironies common in Berlin, the West Berlin side is a quiet slightly crumbly neighborhood.

On our way to Checkpoint Charly we went through the Friedrichstrasse. You will find here shops of the upper price range. Directly from the Galleria Lafayett you can walk to the well known Gendarmenmarkt. There are also som e nice restaurants here.

This historical street has been redeveloped after German reunification. Department stores such as Galeries Lafayette opened in the late 1990s. It is a street with shops, not all high end. There are also car showrooms and plenty of cafes and bars. This was an easy...More
