You can meet many different styles in Old Town of Cologne. There are very charming places but on the other hand many which do not fit together. Maybe because Old Town was destroyed nearly completely during World War II.
Although the ‘old town’ was largely rebuilt after WWII, it is a pleasant place to walk around. Some interesting buildings and cobbled streets, it is nice to stroll up from the river and not too large an area to cover.
There are loads of shops,...More
The historic old town of Cologne is a small town around the Cologne cathedral. Although most of Europe has moved ahead in time, this small town still has spectacular impressions of post WWII era. Infact when we were walking towards the Rhein cruise from the...More
Old town Cologne is much smaller than we thought it would be. It was mostly rebuilt after WWII. There are some interesting buildings to see, and it is quite quaint. Many restaurants and shops. Town hall is there as well. We were glad we joined...More
If you are visiting Cologne then you definitely should take a walk around the Old Town to Altstadt.

Old town is both quaint and comfortable. There are dozens of places to eat and enjoy a few glasses of Kolsch or wine on the plaza. Getting around is easy - on foot or using one of the ubiquitous electric scooters (Lime, Bird, etc).
It's nice though, with many arty shops and eateries and pubs. I like it here. But...Old it isn't. Near the cathedral, alter markt, Heu markt, the old city hall and a number of Museums and other churches.Worth a visit.
Nice to walk along the river and through the "old" town lots of good eating hourses and loads of drinking places. Was here in the day but imagine the night might make it more vibrant. Definitely a good place to walk and visit

Cologne is a friendly, walkable town. Most of the restaurants we went to were reasonably priced and there was a lot of choice in cuisines as well. We ate at a lot of the Kolsch breweries and we met a lot of locals this way and had a great time. Fruh was our favorite! Did not do a lot of attractions but we walked past a few of them, just strolling along the river was fun in itself. The church of course is hard to miss and has some neat historical archaeological things around it, all of which are out in the open - (free) to peruse. I dont think you will be disappointed.
