After having met the monkeys on the rock we had the opportunity to visit the Great Siege Tunnels midway up at the northern end of the rock.
Nice place to drop in and go exploring. We stopped off here as part of a Gibraltar Rock Tours by John Lopez, which I would highly recommend.
It is unbelievable how troops lived in the conditions in the tunnels, so many still belonging to the Ministry of defence and you can’t go in.
This was a great tour, and full of information. It was very interesting to learn of the history and all the things that happened inside these tunnels.
Such a tapestry of fascinating history. Trying to imagine the amount of manpower taken to mount canons, haul supplies up etc. The digging of tunnels is a work of art, and there’s informative write-ups on the walls. Lots of wax figures depicting scenes from earlier days.…
