We climbed up and had spectacular views of both Spain and Portugal. It was definitely worth the climb and was not at all crowded in October. This is a well-preserved castle that is an important part of Portugal’s history.

We enjoyed visiting Marvao and it's castle. The walk up the hill is steep. The reward is the views of the surrounding country. While the castle looks like many of the others we visited it is worth the trip for the view.

Try to make your visit here at sunset or early in the morning. Our visit was uncrowded and the views from the walls beautiful. Walls are steep and you could take a horrible fall easily from them so this is not a place to visit...More

Visited at sunset and sunrise for some lovely photos (on my wife’s phone :-). The views are stunning and if you turn up at 7pm or 7am you can still access all the great bits including the cistern, but there’s no one there to take...More

We walked around the castle early as we had to leave the village early. It is very well preserved, and easily accessible. Be sensible on ramparts.

This was probably one of the best castles I've ever visited. To get there we would recommend parking just outside the town walls and walking in. Its such a tiny little town on the top of this huge hill. You can see why they built...More

It is a "Must do" in Portugal! Great castle, great views, great town and people were so nice! If you like history or nature you won't regret the visit. I Will definitely come back!

We climbed all over the castle, enjoying the vista and clouds as a rain storm began in the distance. The strangest thing was the earwigs that had tried to attack the castle and had experienced heavy losses :)

We stayed in Evora and on one day drove up to Marvao. The drive itself was easy and once we were within 20 minutes or so of Marvao, it was really gorgeous. We chose to park outside the city in the designated parking area and...More

Marvão is well worth a couple of hours wandering around, climbing walls of old city, pottering in artisan shops and enjoying a nice coffee.
