We were so lucky to arrive at this spectacular destination fog free. The views are just breathtaking. The saying in the Azores is that you can experience 4 seasons in one day. As we left the fog was rolling in.
On a sunny day it is hard to beat this view, and we were lucky enough to see it on a sunny day. So many shades of green and blue We even went to the top of the abandoned hotel which gave us an extra...More

The (single) lake is unbelievably two completely different colours, best seen on a sunny day (harder to tell the difference if cloudy). Check Spot Azores webcams before you travel as it's often cloudier here than the coast.

In order to get the two best views, there is very limited walking needed. The first viewpoint is where the abandoned hotel is. This has a big parking lot and is where most of the tourists can be found. The second view point is about a 15 minute walk, but not very strenuous terrain. To get there, you go past the hotel (so the hotel on your right, view of lakes on your left) and continue on that road. Don't take the next left that looks like the road is going down to the lakes. Continue straight on that road for about 15 minutes and you will see a sign for a park, with a dirt parking lot. The gate is open so drive down there and it will bring you to more parking about 5 minutes in. (totally fine for any type of car). From here, you will be able to see exactly where to go for the best view.
