This was a welcome surprise at the top of the mountain after the funicular ride. Despite the weather there were many tropical and subtropical trees, bushes, and flowers.

We last came to the gardens about 3 years ago just after the fires that destroyed some of it. You can still see some of the trees that were affected but it’s starting to regrow. The garden is separated into different parts (cactus, palms, medicinal...More

Worth visiting while in Funchal. Amazing views over city and beautiful flowers/plants, even in November. Nice relaxing time. We had beer in the cafeteria, you can also get a sandwich or salad if you’re hungry

As well as having lots of beautiful plants, this garden has the added bonus of fantastic views down the valley to the sea. Like most sites in Madeira the garden is located on a step slope but the planners have cleverly located the entrance at...More

If your a gardener you will be in your element in this place. Not as many plants in bloom as was expected but I guess the time of year had something to do with it. Take a pad and pencil to take notes of the...More

Very interesting garden, with a large variety of plants and trees, but unfortunately not very well preserved which is pity.
