I love history but was this truly history? Yes, it was a workhouse for female convicts and hence that is what drew us to visit it on a wet, cold day in a taxi. There is very little to exhibit and whatever little there is...More

We did the female factory tour today and it was absolutely fascinating, especially considering we’d never heard of the factory prior! Catherine (tour guide) was exceptional and so passionate. Absolutely loved it and would highly recommend a tour whilst in Hobart.

The excellent tour (thank you Anton) of this historic “factory” tells the harrowing story of some of Australia’s first European female settlers. Exiled for mostly petty crimes, these Irish and English women’s stories are fascinating. We particularly enjoyed the “HerStory” dramatic recreation tour, where we...More

A very informative guide, who explained the penal system that operated during the early-mid 1800's, the type of crimes committed, the way of life and conditions they experienced in goal. A "must do" visit!

Mel was amazing, we did the $18 tour and her knowledge was so much better than us walking it by ourselves. Glad i didn't live back then

I can thoroughly recommend the dramatisation of the life of a female prisoner. It brought to life the extreme hardship that these women faced. It was more extreme than what the men were subjected to at Port Arthur. Brought tears to my eyes.

We took the historic tour and saw the play ‘her story’. These brought the place to life and we learnt loads. Easy to get to using hop on hop off bus.

Her story dramatizedtour is brilliant and well worth the price. It brings alive what it must have been like for females transported to Tasmsnia. Not suitable for very young children but junior upwards. A great husband & wife team take you round the site and...More
