Running from Christchurch to Greymouth is a clean, smooth and very scenic train trip that unfortunatly must stop in Arthur's Pass due to track damage from a landslide. That's ok so you miss a 5 mile tunnel but get a more scenic coach ride to...More
We traveled from Christchurch, but a landslip near Greymouth meant a change at Arthur’s Pass to a coach. What a win. First the fantastically comfortable trip in the luxury of the train with full cafe service and commentary. Across the Canterbury plains in brilliant morning...More

You have booked at the wrong time. We managed to get $99 fares in mid winter. A spectacular journey. We did the return trip because our main focus was the train. If you dont want to train both ways definitely pick up a car in Greymouth and drive back to Christchurch but I would recommend the short drive to punakaiki and stay the night in one of the amazing lodges, homestay or such and experience the west coast hospitality.
