After 16 years closed, the Bowen Falls are again open to the public. Take a short boat road across the harbour to the base of this spectacular waterfall, with amazing views up the fiord to Mitre Peak and beyond.

As part of the Milford Sound cruise few were taken close to these falls, which were in full flow on a wet and misty day.

We went on the day cruise through Milford Sound. The scenery is absolutely stunning, the atmosphere and surroundings are breathtaking. If you visit the south Island it is a must on your visit

The "Real Journey" Boats take you as close as possible under the Bowen Fall which is about 150+ meters high. Most tourists rush to the Upper Deck of the Boat to get soaked under the water Fall. Its quite a thrilling experience and enjoyable too.

My wife and I had the pleasure to see the falls after historic rainfall on the South Island in the Sound. We were kayaking Milford Sound and this was one of the biggest highlights of the paddle. You can't miss it, and no one would...More

So much water hurtling down the side of the granite cliffs is just spectacular and well worth the drive in and cruise

We had wondered whether, because of the wet weather, our experience would be dampened, but instead it was possibly better than if the day had been sunny and bright. Everywhere the waterfalls were marvellous to see.

This is the biggest falls I saw in New Zealand. Rainbows from it are beautiful in afternoons when the sun is shining. Spray and a mighty sound are awesome.

South Island is full of spectacular waterfalls. But this has to be amongst the best of the lot. Only easily accessible by boat, it can easily soak anybody who approaches- not so relevant on a rainy day, but brilliant on a hot One!
