After 16 years closed, the Bowen Falls are again open to the public. Take a short boat road across the harbour to the base of this spectacular waterfall, with amazing views up the fiord to Mitre Peak and beyond.

The "Real Journey" Boats take you as close as possible under the Bowen Fall which is about 150+ meters high. Most tourists rush to the Upper Deck of the Boat to get soaked under the water Fall. Its quite a thrilling experience and enjoyable too.

We had wondered whether, because of the wet weather, our experience would be dampened, but instead it was possibly better than if the day had been sunny and bright. Everywhere the waterfalls were marvellous to see.
South Island is full of spectacular waterfalls. But this has to be amongst the best of the lot. Only easily accessible by boat, it can easily soak anybody who approaches- not so relevant on a rainy day, but brilliant on a hot One!
