We visited the castle as part of an organised trip. You can walk through the very extensive grounds for free, and pay to go into certain parts of it. (11 areas to explore). You could easily spend all day here, although we spent just over an...More
A bit of an uphill trek but well worth it. There was an exhibition there commemorating the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of communism in Eastern Europe which was an experience. The whole hilltop site is breathtaking.
The original castle has been updated considerably since it's 9th century creation, and resembles a modern palace moreso than an ancient castle.
While certainly large, it's most prominent feature from afar is a Gothic style church. Since being renovated heavily in the 1800s, more modern...More
We enjoyed a specially prepared 5 course lunch in the castle dining area. Then, Private Access to the royal balcony with views of Prague over the river! We then were delighted to a private concert by some members of the Prague orchestra. Very nice!
I went on a free walking tour of the castle grounds so i did not go inside any of the exhibits but it is not really a castle but more of a complex. It does not really have a medieval castle feel or look, besides...More
Very tood introduction to the interesting and complicated history of Czechs . Layers of events over a long period of time. Interesting to see how the state system evolves hand in hand with the religious institutions, perhaps feeding from one another...
To get the most out of it requires tickets, commitment, and probably some advance reading. The site is enormous, the views spectacular and the uphill walk there worthwhile. It is still good as an ignorance shrouded visit - which was certainly us - just for...More
Obviously the must do attraction in Prague but it is genuinely a great place to see. The architecture is amazing. Rmember to look up or you will miss some of the best stuff. Also worth watching the changing of the gaurd
A walk up to the Castle gives you a handful of different experiences in one visit. The amazing windows and shrines of St Vitus Cathedral, the ancient church of St George's Basilica, the sweet little houses of Golden Lane and then an amazing view over...More
The history in the walls of this castle is incredible. We were immersed into the really well preserved medieval castle. This on display are the original burial clothes of past royals as well as the dungeon and weapons there they tortured prisoners. We wandered around...More
Your experience in Prague will never be complete if you do not see it from the top. Hillsides, stretched from the west to the north, provide spectacular views of greenish copper cupolas, narrow cobblestone streets, bridges connecting both river banks and green gardens from red-roof tops of centuries-old houses. Prague pulls you into its 1300 year old history. Walking up the hill or stairs to Prague Castle, the
historical seat of Czech rulers and the majestic Saint Vitus Cathedral can leave you speechless (and out of breath). Luckily, plenty of terrace cafés overlooking gardens and beautiful parks are available to provide rest and a place to catch your breath again.
