Pololu Valley is one of those places where you find your mind wandering off to... well, who knows, it's simply magical. The "Lookout" is pretty much the parking lot at the northern rim of just one of a number of valleys on the North side...More

This was just a quick stop for us but the views are beautiful so we spent a good 1/2 hour enjoying the scenery and taking pictures. Parking is very limited but we parked along the road and walked a short bit to get there. We...More

The entrance to this beach had a beautiful view. I only wish we had time to hike down to the beach. We arrived early enough to snag one of the limited parking spots but did not have time to hike down to the beach.

Wow! Haven't been here in a few years what a difference. For the worse. Since the volcano stopped flowing it seems that the big bus tours now make this a stop. Parking has always been tight but now it's almost impossible. NO BATHROOMS, let that...More

I spent a couple of fantastic hours at this location. From the 'Pololū Valley Lookout' itself you can get the classic view of the Pololū Valley and the black sand beach. An approx. 30 min hike down along the rather steep and rocky trail along...More

A nice little change of pace to the day. This time of year it wasn’t crowded and we found the hike took about 20 minutes to get down, watching our footing. The black sand beach was almost completely void of people. There are a lot...More

This was a great couple of hours in nature. The beach is remote and peaceful in the morning hours. Beautiful scenery. Definitely would not recommend for anyone who has mobility or health issues. The hike is challenging but doable. Took about 15-20 minutes to get...More

Incredible view from the top, black sand beach at the bottom worth the hike down. We've been going there for years and are sad to see how how overcrowded it's become, No place for tour groups, hope they're kept out. Very concerned that all of...More

Definitely not on crutches or even someone with bad knees or ankles. It is a very challenging hike due to the steep grade and the terrain.

It would depend on your stamina and strength. It is a fairly steep climb back up. You are not ever climbing as with your hands and knees, but there are three switchbacks and almost constantly climbing as if on stairs.
