These obelisks are wonderful examples of ancient engineering feats and the artisans that sculpted them. The history of how they were carved and then moved into place is amazing.
Be amazed by the workmanship making it first, and then getting it vertical. Egyptian obelisks were relocated to many parts of the world, sometimes broken in the process. This is where it belongs and it stands as the marker it should. The carvings are in great condition centuries…
These obelisks were as far as I went into Karnak. It was very hot and I was tired. This is a big place (68+ acres, I think).
It is hard to imagine this obelisk being cut from a single piece of granite and then transported to this location at the time it was actually created. Truly incredible. Worthy art and artifact.
The grand scale at which these were constructed is mesmerizing. One cannot easily imagine how bright these were in ancient times when the top was still covered in the reflective limestone they used.
