Very beautiful, so extravagant. It is hard to beleive there is poverty outside. Next to the cathedral, you would not expect to have 2 churches joined together.

We were lucky enough to see a wedding party gathering outside. We followed them in and watched part of the service in this beautiful building

Next door to the cathedral is Iglesia de El Sagrario, another beautifully ornate church with a lot of gold decorations, as well as what is probably the squeakiest wooden floors known to man. It was began in 1657 and completed half a century later. The...More

El Sagrario – It was originally the main chapel of the Cathedral. It sits facing to the west and is extremely beautiful.. It’s right beside the Compania De Jesus Church. I did not get in but it’s gorgeous!!!!

This church much less resplendently designed and it features far less gold and intricate carvings. Nonetheless is it no less beautiful and by it having many locals inside praying, it has more of local and true atmosphere.

A great church to see. While I found it a bit gaudy and ornate, it’s still beautiful Yes, it’s worth a stop. You’re already in the grand plaza area Like most, it’s a working parish with masses held regularly Basilica, Santa Barbara, El Sagario, etc.

Any visit to the cathedral should be followed by this often overlooked church. The difference between the two churches is striking. Especially good to do both on Sunday right before of after mass. The lights will be on and it will be free. Altar at...More
