We only got to see a fraction of the Old Town since we were on a city tour and it did not include any significant time in the old town. Still at least we got to see the old walled city entrance.
But there is not only the „Cuidade Vieja“ interesting. Take your time to walk left and right as well. Walk over the Place of Independence... straight on than right side down to the River... amazing streets, Full of Old trees and houses. Absolute safe during the day.
The Ciudad Vieja is best explored on foot using the Peatonal Sarandi. Granted, there are shops and, even a Starbucks here, but looking beyond that, one can see the many grand old buildings with wrought iron balconies. There are also a few museums and art galleries here that…
Lots of good photo spots in this old city quarter of Montevideo. Lots of monuments, parks and historical spots. Check out the gate to the old city- the only stone remnant of the original old city!
Old town gates, bars and cafes with a dozen or so stalls selling a variety of cheap trinkets... nice by day !!
