The surveillance state of the 1940’s and 1950’s is the foundation for the surveillance state of the 2020’s... The not so subtle warning implicit in the activity that took place here in the House of Leaves, and the price paid by so many innocent and...More

The very ordinariness of the place, compared to its function is chilling. It gives a real feel for what the previous regime was like - and that isn't so immediately obvious in the modern city. The rooms are described in English as well as Albanian,...More

I went because it was a highly rated site but I had been warned I might be disappointed. Frankly, it was moving at times but many of the rooms and exhibits were missable. There were frightening statistics and horrifying video testimonies but I am sure...More

The House of Leaves was a very interesting look into Albania’s communist secret police. There was enough translated into English to make it interesting and allow us to understand everything. Most of the documents and files aren’t translated, just because they’re so long, so some...More

Entry is free into this most interesting house. Built as a clinic,it was the headquarters of the secret organisation. It has an eerie feel. Well worth a visit, the rooms are numbered and plenty. Of info in English.

Step back in time and see how the closed regime of Albania spies on not only its enemies but also its own people. Good displays in English and Albanian and audio visual with subtitles. Very easy to navigate and understand what is being shown. Well...More
