Two largest squares in Minsk are the Independence sq and this one. The October sq, named after the famous revolution is closer to the city center named Upper town. The sq is vast and pretty empty, dominated by two huge bldgs: the grey concrete columned...More

This is a very large square, and it is impressive due to its remarkable size. It is centrally located.

This is another large square in the centre of Minsk. Not too much of interest here, although the architecture of the Palace of the Republic and the Palace of Culture is interesting. There's also the zero kilometre marker to see here.

Minsk has more than one square and each has its own interest. This one is not the most interesting but has its advantages. It is surrounded by buildings in different styles. This includes a soviet mock roman style in which the sculptural forms have moved...More

There’s nothing to do here. There is one building with a nice socialist facade but I’d walk past it if you’re short on time.

Oktyabrskaya Square is in downtown Minsk. Impressive dimensions. Have been used for political reasons. Important government buildings at its sides.

Well, this is an impressive building. The area in front of the building is huge. I wont say you put this in your diary as a place to visit, rather when you are exploring the city, just pass by. There is nothing much to do...More

Good photo opportunities because there are so few tourists walking around here. A vast empty square. Interesting contrast of buildings with the massive modern offices school and the neoclassical building on the side with columns and a frieze of statues. The are bars and restaurants...More

No, it's not Tiannanmen but also very impressive and almost always empty, as if the people are afraid of walking on it. But then again, this city is so otherwordly quiet....
