Our tour agent had set us up for a 6AM pickup in BA, the 8AM ferry with a return on the 8:45PM ferry. What a total waste of time. The Colonia experience might have been interesting for 1-2 hours. The hassle for the ferry made...More

This little gem was fought over by the Portuguese and Spanish for a century. It was established in 1680. Its location was of strategic importance. The area includes buildings with Portuguese and Spanish influences. The Street of Sighs oozes history. The lighthouse is worth a...More

A charming old town by the Rio de la Plata River (which is actually the "historic quarter" of the modern town of Colonia but which very much takes on an appearance of being a town in itself with no modern part of the city to...More

A few old buildings and cobblestone streets but it is not a highlight in my opinion. We rented a golf cart and drove pretty far around the town.

We travelled here on a day trip from Buenos Aires. Colonia is charming and picturesque - though a little limited for things to see and do. 4 or 5 hours is plenty in our opinion - but well worth a short visit
