This is a fascinating and wonderful museum. We spent several hours there, with a break for coffee and cake in the middle. It helps if you know some Russian, but there is English translation for the most important parts. Definitely needs more than one visit...More

It is a very well organised museum, very informative even though not everything was in english and makes you want to find out more about russian political history. There are also mini documentaries you can watch at any time in the museum.

The State Museum of Political History is located in Saint Petersburg, near the St. Paul and Peter Fortress. It is located in an old palace reconverted in museum. It is very interesting, if you are interested in the history of the country. In fact, here...More

This is a great museum and it is housed in a very historical and beautiful art nouveau building. It was the home of the famous ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya, and the new exhibition on the top floor of her former mansion "Fouettes of Fate" is devoted...More

Located in an old mansion of a former ballerina, near the Sennaya metro stop, this museum is loaded with information and exhibits. There are English placard for each general exhibit, though not a translation for each item. Still, it is interesting and informative. Admission is...More

OK, I am biased. I love history, and I love taking photos of historical objects. On both counts, this museum is unmissable. It covers Russian politics in great (one might even say excruciating!) detail, warts and all, up to modern times. No value judgements, no...More

We had a couple of hours to spare, and came across this externally very unassuming museum. The reception area is spacious, bright and very clean. The museum is made up of several, well-organised, exhibition rooms, each illustrating and describing events which in one way or...More

This was our third visit to St Petersburg so we were looking for something other than the usual tourist attractions. This was one . I don’t think a lot of western tourists visit here. We and another couple from our cruise ship were the only...More

This really should be a mandatory visit for all tourists in St Petersburg. Learn about the dark side of history in Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union. It could use more English translations of the exhibits, but it’s still worthwhile for non-Russian speakers.

Heaps of interesting facts and artefacts showing the history of Russian politics for around the last 130 years. There was quite a bit of English translation but it did seem to drop off towards the end of the exhibits. Allow a good 2 to 3...More

I cannot tell from the museum's website whether their guided tours are in English at all. The audioguide and audiopen are very good. You can hire a private guide for quite reasonably in St. Petersburg. I visited the... More
