Go and reflect a bit on it all. It's a classic tourist attraction of Brazil and Salvador but it's worth it.

You can go by local bus, very easy. Buy some colourfull ribbons and make some wishes. Enter the church and explore it. See what pilgrims gave to Madonna.

It is sad to see the church primarily for spiritual lives of the black slaves who were brought from Africa worshipping all white deities...this church also has a deep connection with Candomble and yet...

We went on a Friday evening to the mass to experience Brazilian spiritual life. My favorite was the colorful streamers everyone ties on the fence just outside the church!
