Be warned you cannot join the tram at any of the upward bus stops you see on route (only locals can) as tourists you have to buy a ticket. The tickets are R$20 pp & are basically a return ticket. We followed a sign for the station after visiting the Escadaria selarón but this

On recommendations on Trip Advisor we took the Tram - what an awesome experience - took you back in time - amazing views of the city of Rio. We went to the end of the line and got off - thought there was maybe a view point or so. Should have stayed on the Tram and travelled back

The Santa Teresa tram is a must if you're in Rio. It leaves from just near Carioca Metro Station (very easy to find - just use Google maps) and travels past the Cathedral, across the Aqueduct and up the hills to Santa Teresa neighbourhood. It is 20R for a return ticket - well
