We pulled off to take some pictures of the valley and found it very scenic. The hills are green and red-copper and iron in soil we were told. Nice green valley in contrast with the hills.

Pleasant ride along the Ounila Valley en route to Air ben Haddou. The river spawns a streak of green life in this barren landscape. A number of small villages along the way as well.

Preceded and surrounded by desolate places the occasional gorge like this is lush with dark green crops and date palms

Very interesting part of our trip through the Ounila Valley which links the Tizi n Tichka pass to Ait Ben Haddou. It was once the main thoroughfare for the trans-saharan trade route between Marrakesh and sub-saharan Africa. You can imagine these huge caravans on their...More

If you have a reliable vehicle, absolutely take this backroad instead of the main Marrakech/Ouarzazate highway. At the north end it loops off the main road near Telouet (worth a stop itself) and rejoins the highway at Ait-Benhaddou at the south end. The road is...More

The scenery along this route is stunning. It takes a bit longer than the N9, and the roads still not properly surfaced for a few miles, but this is probably what helps to keep it so quiet, undeveloped and unspoilt. Next time I'll hopefully have...More

The Ounila Valley runs from Telouet to Aït Ben Haddou. Excellent new road. Easy drive. Villages on the way.

It's an amazing drive up this valley, with gorgeous views at every turn. Kasbahs in every village, some sadly now decaying, see them before they melt back into the ground! The road climbs higher and higher up to Telouet, well worth the trip!

If you're taking a day trip yo Ait ben Haddou, you drive through the Onila Valley. From the road, the views are amazing. It is a long trip from Marrakech by car, Andy the road particularly treacherous.
