Wow me i my partner could not believe when we were on the top of Putucusi mountain. The top of Putucusi mountain is in front of Machu Picchu citadel. Do different hike than clsassic hikers of Machu Picchu.

I was hoping there was some way to climb up this mountain but I hiked as high as I could and found the ladder has been replaced by a single metal pole! The views along the way up were pretty though.

The ladder has now gone, and so you need to use a rope of your own or take a risk. A group of locals arrived with a rope, and so this is possible to complete.

How can a track seemingly unrepaired or maintained since 2016, still be featured as TripAdvisor's number 1 activity to do in Aguas Calientes? I'm sure the views are epic from the top and would have loved to have made it up however: 1. Track entrance...More

This is not easy since the ladders were removed. Well worth when at the peak, great views of Machu Pichu. Not the best idea with a hangover, fatigued legs and old trainers for shoes. All the way up was worried about going down on the...More

This is one of my favorite hikes in the entire world! I went this past weekend to climb it again (February 4, 2017) - but unfortunately the ladders and the cable are no longer there. You will need good rock climbing equipment to ascend. There...More

This is an amazing climb. It is very very dangerous. The old gear is gone. Only try this if you have your own gear and are an experienced climber.

If you have altitude issues or stomach upset, as many visitors may, this is a fairly grueling hike, at home you could do it in less than two hours, but in Peru it may take you four. Spray yourself with deet. Bring lots of water....More

for us it tooks us about 2.5 hours one way. But we took everything very slowly and took lots of time taking photos. We were very cautious too since it looked very dangerous. Coming down was just about 1 hour.
