We booked the 11:00 am tickets but ended up going with the 10:40 am group. Glad we did because visibility was awesome! Rent a car if possible, as viewing time is only 20 minutes - and then there's nothing else to do.

It's necessary to buy the tickets ahead of time. You are only given 20 minutes at the crater and visibility is usually poor. All of the other trails are closed to the public now, so you pay $4 for parking and $15 to enter and...More

The hotel concierge helped us buy the tickets online the day of the visit. Keep in mind that this is somewhat of low season and we went on a Wednesday. We got there about 20 minutes early from our scheduled time and they allowed us...More

I have been there multiple times. My recommendation is that if it's foggy, you just wait and eventually, usually in a few minutes, it will clear up enough for you to take a good luck.
