This is the site where the Freedom Charter was signed so whilst the square is a bit rundown it is an important historical place with great significance for the townships.

Visiting the place where the South African Freedom Charter was written carries an important sense of the hope in its writing and the promises not yet fulfilled.

Historic monument. You can feel the history in this building where the Freedom Charter was agreed and signed. Difficult to photograph the full picture. Very atmospheric though. Situated in Kliptown in a rundown square, the building is memorable because of its significance in the history...More

The square is so so. What matters is what it represents, what Walter Sisulu represents and what the words on the memorial represent. Glad to have seen it.

We had a great afternoon there. Our guide Rudie explained everything, but the best part was eating and talking to the people around there. Great experience!

We visited the square on a sunny day however the architecture is quite stark, almost depressing. This square is bleak and simplistic educating visitors about the Charter of Rights of South Africa. I recommend going with a guide as it is in one of the...More

I found this part of Soweto fascinating. Surrounded by some of the poorest neighborhoods of Kliptown, this square dedicated to Walter Sisulu and the site where the Freedom Charter for South Africa was written up, long before Apartheid was inspirational. The simple monument offers a...More

The square is rather austere but the central focus is the housing of the inscription of the original freedom charter. The square in in Kliptown in Soweto where life busies itself around also to remind us that much has to be done still to realise...More
