Zulu Nation has always intrigued me. They would have taken over Kw-ZuluNatal had it not been for the slaughter of millions by the British forces and later by other tribes. I wanted to get a better look at how they lived and this is an...More
I run small golf & safari tours on the KZN North Coast and Shakaland is an absolute must for visitors to South Africa. A great introduction to the culture and customs of the Zulu Nation. The guides and staff are friendly and welcoming!
I originally looked at a day tour to Shakalnd until my travel agent told me you could do overnight stays. It was certainly a different experience and added to my African adventure, but a 1 night stay is enough.
As I was here in winter...More
We were very interested in seeing Shakaland after seeing the movie Shaka Zula.
The movie was filmed here back in 1989. The site looks like not much has changed since then. The staff try to wear the clothing of the past they really can not...More
After hearing so much about the famed Zulu warriors, I achieved a lifetime dream by visiting Shakaland. We chose the all day Shakaland Zulu Experience offered by Viator after reading other Trip Advisor reviews. The Followme2Africa tour company implemented this tour. After an 8:30 pickup...More
This was an add on to the main part of out trip to KZN region and we drove about 4 hours to reach this place.
Unfortunately it resembles a poor quality version of a Disney land theme park and we were largely disappointed with the...More
Had a great stay very different I must say.The show was brilliant really enjoyed ourselves at the village. The food was excellent staff very helpful and friendly.Don't expect luxury but comfort and cleanliness yes. Well done all of you for making our stay so nice.
Taken as a whole this was very good. The setting lent itself to the cultural tour and the dancing and that side was fine. The scenery was good too especially the view down to the water. Dinner was very nice - variety was good and...More
Used for a film set and now used for tourism, none of the workers ~ actors live there and it all feels a little like African Disney.
If you think this is going to be authentic then think again.
Still you do get a taste...More
Shakaland as the venue of the filming of Shaka Zulu in 1984 was a historic visit for me. But the infrastructure has stayed as it was, no repairs or touch ups. The rooms are terrible. The guided tour through the village and the evenings marimba...More

There's plenty of parking for the RVs, we parked 15 there and stayed in their huts. It is not inexpensive to stay but perhaps they have a reduced rate for the children. The children will enjoy the program. There is not a campground close enough to stay at and commute to the program.
There is no general entrance fee. You pay only for the programmes you want to take part in. A full programme that includes a Cultural Tour, Zulu Dance and Full Buffet Lunch, costs about R460.00 (SA Rands). per person.
