This convent is a must to visit, and you should consider at least half a day to do so. Very interesting building. The memory card of your camera will be full in no time visiting the monastery and the church.

Give yourself at least 2 hours to meander and enjoy everything the convent and castle have to offer. We went around 2 when most of the tourists had left the convent. The Gothic cloister was nice but the Round Church - wow...beautiful.

A highlight of our trip to Portugal. Very unusual church and monastery, and fascinating to see the rooms of the monks, the dining hall, and so many other things, like their ingenious heating system. The architecture of the building itself is exquisite. The city of...More

So, there are lots of convents with cloisters, many are lovely, seen quite a few, but not like this. A fort, a monastery with some very interesting bits and pieces. Just the chapel alone is worth the visit. Fatima is close by so if you...More

This is a huge complex of buildings, started from the Templars and added to consecutively by so many Kings. The church is gorgeous and absolutely unique in its architecture. So many of the buildings around the church, part of the monastery, survived and they are...More

We hired a private car service to see the Batalha Monastery, the Alcobaca Monastery and the Convent of Christ in Tomar -- all in one day. The three places are all spectacular. The Convent of Christ is our third stop. The courtyard is a wonder....More

For those of us who are fascinated by the intentionally distorted story of the Templar’s, or as they will come to be called, Knights of Christ, in Portugal, this is Mecca. It turns out the entire Templar tale is as much Portuguese as French. This...More
