The Chetate, or Citadel is spectacular. There are fantastic museums inside the ancient fortification, two fabulous cathedrals, wonderful sculptures and bars where you can sit and enjoy the views. The site is vast and it will take you ages to explore. The walk between the...More

I had read about Alba Carolina citadel in Alba Iiulia and I was not disappointed. After visiting typical Transylvbania highlights such as Sibiu or Sighishoara I was impressed by this citadel and the lack of tourists, just local ones. The citadel is huge, with plenty...More

The citadel is enjoyable any day of the week, however, I recommend visiting it on a weekend, noon time, when the change of guard parade is at its full show, with costumes and dressed horses.

Time seemed to stand still as we took a Sunday morning stroll. Locals come to spend their mornings here - all peaceful and pleasant. The Romanian cathedral has huge loudspeakers which broadcast the service going on inside, which was a bit of a nuisance. The...More

The Alba-Carolina castle is huge! it is shaped like a star and inside its walls, there enough place for a small city! but now days, it has museums, churches, food fairs and a lot of statues scattered around, making a trip here a great experience!

Plenty to admire in this beautiful area. The gates into the citadel, the Roman ruins, the museums, the cathedrals, the vibrant colours of the buildings, the bronze statues... Allow at least an hour. Wonderful.
