This is a very significant site. The stone houses were reconstructed. The clans would chose a ruling clan with the Birdman ceremony once a year.

While on tour visited this site. Amazing underground houses. Worth a quick look but not a long stay. Nearby attractions are more interesting.

The title is orongo ceremonial village. Wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s very interesting and amazing location. Loved the crater content which looks like earth from space

Visually nothing very impressive. It's just when you know the story that it becomes better. careful, I think it's one of the two places that you can only visit once with your ticket (with the quarry)

The stories about this location are almost as impressive as the location itself. Either go with a guide or make sure you read the information in the museum before you go out to the sight.

People lived between the giant extinct volcano and the ocean 500 yrs ago. No wonder it was picked as a religious site The houses are made of stone with slate roofs and the doors are so small you would have to crawl through them even...More

The interpretive centre is excellent. The walk to see the restored ancient cliff dwellings is second to none. Be sure to bang a warm jacket and windbreaker, it's very windy on the cliffs. The site was closed just after we finished our tour at 1pm,...More

When you visit Orongo, you get to dive deep into the heritage of the Rapa Nui and how their society became one of a rotating elected leadership. This was all based upon the challenge of the Bird Man and the story behind how it developed....More
