The only castles in Africa, inspired by the evicted Portuguese are fascinating. For Ethiopia they seem to be well maintained and historically accurate repairs are underway. A pity that Mussolini’s crass underlings made a mess of some parts with unsympathetic ‘upgrades’ and then the British...More

Royal enclosure far exceeded expectations. I discovered there was far more to it than I had realised or expected and the guide helped bring each palace to life. Definitely worth a tour.

The castles at Fasil Ghebbi are really amazing, especially for the history they represent, which was brought alive by our excellent guide Fantahun, who was provided to us by the guide agency inside the castle walls. He took as though all of the history, including...More

After so many crowded castles in Europe, it was fun to wander around this expansive area, seeing all 6 castles leisurely and by ourselves. Interesting history stretching over 115 years. Quiet, relaxing place to view history!
