Absolutely stunning church. Our local guide Mohammed was great. Famous as the only 17th century Gondarine church to survive (completely unscathed) the 1888 Mahdist attack on Gondar. Beautiful intact roof inside the church (see pictures!). Outside the church in the grounds there…
An interesting church with long history and wonderful wall paintings The garden is very nice and calming
The only standing church out of 44 churches in Gondar. Other 43 churches were destroyed by Sudanese during the war. Amazing wall paintings with 3 layers of churches, chanting, holy and holy of holy. Many black angels on the ceiling, represented by their black hair and wide eyes.…
The church is amazingly built and the painting of saint Marry is very interesting. And also the church by itself is built in the shape of Noah's arc. On the entrance you can see archangel saint Michael carved on the wooden door. As in total am happy to be there.
Quite a unique style of a church within a fortified enclosure and well worth a visit. Vultures in the trees!
