My husband, 25 year old daughter and me hiked down to the crater. We were accompanied by an armed ranger because sometimes there are wildlife encounters along the trail. This was described a a walk. I would call it a medium to rigorous hike. We...More

We stayed on the Ngorongoro crater rim so it was a good 3 hour drive to Empakaai Crater along some very bumpy roads, part of which was a main road and quite busy. It was very interesting to see the Masai villages along the route...More

I vised this place with my group from Canada. It is really a world wonder. We made a 2 days game drive while taking a rest in one of the lodges closest to the crater. It was nice to view all the big 5 animals.

You will need to arrange for an armed ranger to accompany you. Can be challenging because of altitude, but very beautiful.

If you want to get away from the crowds of Ngorongoro Crater, a short drive (2-ish hours) takes you to the rim of Empakaai Crater. Below, the crater floor is largely taken up by a jade-coloured lake. A half-hour walk and you're at the lakeshore...More

It was just myself (66) and my son (32) with our guide and a ranger. It took us about 40min to descend into the crater and view the flamingos. We did see leopard tracks but no other wildlife. The hike back up only took 45min...More

Undiscribable and a must see the first thing in the morning. Earlier is better to beat the safari vehicles. There is a delay at the gates to get the permit to the crater. Animals are not freely roaming in the sun and heat.

We have done several hike to this place, no one had any altitude problem. In case you have altitude issue, best to ascend at a slower pace. Jordan D' Souza / Tanzania Serengeti Adventure
