We had to choose one of the archaeological sites and we chose the Al-Mina. It has an amazing long Mosaic Road flanked by columns which makes you feel guilty walking on the mosaics. You can clearly see where the Roman baths with their hypocaust clay...More

Was not sure what ruins [and reconstructions] would be able to see in fabled Tyre. We stopped first at the necropolis, in ancient times separated from the city which was on an island. Many of the sarcophagi showed evident signs of looting, much of that...More

These Roman ruins located on the beach actually extend into the water, so if you bring your bathers you can swim out and see the columns underwater. Be sure to have lunch next door at Captain Bobs for the best seafood we had in Beirut.

The Old City of Tyre or also called Sour is located south of Beirut and is connected by a nice modern motorway. We drove down to Tyre expecting to visit only the famous Roman Hippodrome, but what we found were many, many interesting ancient sites...More

I was a bit disappointed at first because I expected much, but still it's nice to visit. There are many sarcophagi, and some collumns, and the little extant piece of a hippodrome, as well as one nice, albeit small gate, and some nice trees, including...More

You can hire a nice air conditioned car for $20 a day. I would start early and if possible when in Tyre drive on to the Naoura area which has some amazing beaches and cafes with views to die for.
