About
It was supposed to be a children's pool, but the harbor seals took over and it's a main tourist and local attraction. Great picture spot.

The Children’s pool was originally endowed by/constructed by Ellen Browning Scripps to have a breakwater which created a safe beach where children could learn to swim. For decades and decades, children learned to swim in the protected area, as the seawall broke the waves, protecting...More

Childrens Pool is a nice area for the kids to swim if it wasn't for the sea lions/seals. There weren't too many this time but just enough to keep people interested in them. The odor wasn't as bad as the pelican area.

Not really a children’s pool, more of a seal watching pool. Fun little sea cave to explore and nice beach area.

I remember as a kid swimming in this area but now the sea lions have taken it over. You can still walk the sea wall or watch from a park bench.

This was such a cool spot to visit. Seeing the seals in their natural habitat was amazing. There were several times in which the seals were within a few feet of us. There is a really cool cave store nearby. My family enjoyed walking through...More

We visited at the end of the season, end of April, but there were still plenty of seals there. It was fun to watch them. I could have stayed all day, we stayed for about an hour. The viewing space allows for you to see...More

We took a walk along the wooden walkway that forms a bit of a semi circle around the "children's pool" which is a small roped off beach area where families of seals come to sunbathe. Not sure why the call it a children's pool unless...More

It was fun to see the seals and their pups on this beach. It was more interesting to hear about the history of the "children's pool" and the current politics surrounding this beach.

This was probably a really neat place for kids years ago but now the marine mammals have kinda invaded it. But there are some neat photos that you could capture there.

I don't know why. The pool was originally built for children but the sea lions and seals took it over. There was a sign there that said people should not approach mother seals because they might abandon their pups who will... More
