This area is part of the river walk and it is very neat to stop and take a moment at the Transcending statue. They have some wonderful quotes about labor legacy and those who built and serve the city of Detroit.
Detroit claims to have the largest free jazz festival in America. It is a very good one. It is held in Hart Plaza (three stages) plus a fourth stage a half mile from the plaza. Detroit has much local talent to draw from but these...More
As luck would have it - was at the Hart Plaza to catch the Detroit Jazz Festival - some good big band mixing and Pat Metheney show off and across the road interspersed with some street food off the trucks on a warm, sunny, rainy...More
This is Detroit’s entrance to the Detroit River. There is usually something happening here. Festivals every weekend. There is a nice fountain, when it working. Plus the river walk is being extended, soon it will go all the way to Belle Isle. Check it out.
Almost every year I attend the Detroit Jazz Fest, the largest free outdoor jazz fest in the world. Almost all of the action takes place in Hart Plaza with a variety of different venues and artists. Hart Plaza also is right on the Detroit River...More

Hello. This was answered a while ago by tev9999 and it should still apply. "You might want to park in the Greektown Casino garage. Parking is free if you go in the casino to validate your ticket. Plenty of good restaurants right by the casino. You can then walk south on Beaubien to the Ren Cen, which is connected to Hart Plaza by the river walk. There are a few restaurants on Beaubien including Niki's Pizza, Loco's (Mexican), the Detroiter Bar (good burgers) and Tom's Oyster Bar (seafood).
From Hart Plaza, if you don't want to keep walking, hop on the people mover in the financial district and it will take you right back to the casino."
If you want to keep walking, head north on Woodward up to Campus Martius. From there you can find a great Coney Dog just to the west at Lafayette Coney Island (on Lafayette). If you still have time you can keep heading north on Woodward to the Stadium area with the Fox Theater, Hockeytown Cafe, Cheli's Chili and several other places. If you want to head back to Greektown from Campus Martius, bear northeast on Monroe. Stop at the Old Shillelagh for a Guinness, and you are right back at the casino.
