Nice to look at from afar and to wander round and get lost in, albeit rather steep! It provides the iconic backdrop of berat.

We stayed in the old town. Entrance to the castle through the main gate is free after 16:00 It is better to go to the castle by car, there is free parking - it is difficult to climb the hill, especially if you have children...More

Take your time and climb the, slippery, stoned streets and don’t give up when you end up in a dead end street. Walk back or ask the helpful people living there. Looks a bit like small cities you can also find in Italy or Greece.

When in Berat, you will see two major bridges. The oldest one is Gorica. The best pictures should be taken from a distance. We visited today (October 2019) and it was a little dry. Probably has not seen a lot of rain.

Really beautiful and unique as a neighborhood all over Albania . There are alleys with cobbled streets where you can explore and immerse yourself into the daily life of the people there .

The Gorica neighborhood is a living museum. The alleys and houses are in the area across the bridge from Mangalemi (below the castle) and are a pleasure to wander for a couple of hours.
