The Taos Plaza is the historic center of the town of Taos. Once a Spanish fortified walled plaza, it is now a beautiful collection of wonderful businesses.

We visited the Taos Plaza on a Friday morning. The shops open at 10:00. There is a lot to choose from and you can spend hours going from shop to shop. My wife and I always try to spend time there when we visit Taos.

Sometimes by accident. Sometimes offers farmers market, which can be better than most downtown restaurants (does anyone visit Taos for downtown restaurants?)

I watched a guy hit up multiple people waking in the plaza for $$ because "his truck broke down". Oldest drag in the book. He approached me and I waved him along. He started screaming at me and calling me names. Hello Taos, I am...More

The main draw for me was the architecture. The galleries and boutiques weren’t interesting to me at all. I walked around in circles a lot and kept finding myself at the same place.

Great place to let those in your group that want to shop do that while you people watch or have a meaningful conversation with a stranger in the gazebo. Something for everyone.

We enjoyed the shopping, as well as the play area for kids, Twirl. It has convenient parking (meters) and a lot of different shops withing easy walking distance.

With the exception of a couple of higher quality establishments, the Plaza is mostly cheap touristy shops with goods of questionable quality and origin. Go one street over to Bent Street for a higher caliber of goods.

We were lucky to be there when the local farmers market was there. Nice and interesting things to buy, fro fresh wild mushrooms to a great variety of vegetables and fruits and some nice food.
