The Hawthorne bridge is special. It lights up at night and is fun to drive on..for most. For me, it's easy access to downtown and an easy way to get there. It's very Portland.

The Hawthorne Bridge is a truss bridge with a vertical lift that spans the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon, joining Hawthorne Boulevard and Madison Street. Easily walkable or by bike.

I loved walking across this 100 year old bridge with its openwork fencing and steel construction. It's not exactly peaceful, being one of the busiest bridges in the state but this bridge is an especially nice spot to get some good Willamette River and city...More

I believe there are 13 or 14 bridges that span the Willamette River and this one was one of my favorites. You can walk across and visualize how/when it was built and marvel at all the metal in it. We have a couple like this...More

I like to walk across the Hawthorne Bridge on my lunch hour to enjoy a meal downtown. The bridge is right in the center of downtown with many restaurants and other points of interest just across the river from the industrial district. It's the perfect...More

I was out for a very long stroll crossing bridges and looking over the waterfront. My gaze took in the Hawthorne Bridge and the Portland Spirit. The span was starting to raise and the Ship was leaving the waterfront. It was clear that it was...More
