Just north of City Hall on Broad street, puts PAFA out of the "museum area" of Philadelphia, so it is sometimes described as a "hidden gem." It is a gem: The architecture outside (look at the building from across the street) and the interior design...More

We loved the art outside as well as inside! One of our tours began here and we got a taste that day. We managed to come back for a quick tour of both buildings and so glad we did!

Go there to visit the building itself. Otherwise you will be disappointed especially if you visited the Barnes Foundation and the Philadelphia Museum days before.

The Academy of Fine Arts is worth a visit while in Philadelphia. The building is impressive, grand and spacious. Its art collections are good and worth a 2-3 hours visit.

SO we went into the building and was minimally impressed, but then as we were walking down the street, we found the main building. This was very cool. Many great pieces of art and the original of King George and Washington are together here.

Gorgeous architecture and love the huge art works outside the building. When I walked pass, I couldn't help to check out this museum. Lots of great paintings and sculptures. Very interesting!

The building is a great place to display; purpose designed for it. Permanent collection is interesting, some notable pieces from the 1700's (think Stuart, Peele, etc.) through present. Not crowded, good viewing - even in the salon rooms. These, in the main, are not brushstroke...More

I did not know what to expect, but was impressed with the building and the art. A gorgeous stairway led us to the galleries. Huge paintings cover both sides on top of the staircase. The first gallery was showcasing my favorite Homer; the fox and...More

This is a museum that some time is forgotten because of the Philadelphia Art Museum. This is a great place to spend 2-3 hours enjoying classic American art. The architecture of the building is breath taking.

Welcome to Philadelphia. PAFA does have tours but it is not required. You are free to review the works there at your own pace. Check the PAFA website for tickets fees.
