There are a number of places to get onto 90 mile beach, but be aware the most southerly entrance is blocked off as there is a large stream between the entrance and the beach. You can drive onto the beach but will need the appropriate...More

Its one of NZs iconic roads, all on the beach. But of course you have to be sensible and go with a proper AWD or 4WD vehicle and not drive stupid. I had an old Pajero and have been often with the kids including a...More

Here we are at the southern end ensconced in an old-school beachside haven. Ahipara has a population of a 1000 souls that swells during the holiday season. There’s a mix of traditional beaches, where the beach clearly dominates life in town. There is a famous...More

The tour was by special off-road bus. We stopped at beautiful beaches, climbed and glided down giant sand dunes, and walked up to the farthest north lighthouse in New Zealand!

The beach is long and being on the tour bus helped with information about discolour in the water in some parts, it was plankton!

It is fun. Jeeps and 4WD cars running on it. The beach is a cool highway, in the winter time is so abandoned.

A great space to be in to experience freedom, a long open beach, you can gather shellfish, cast out a fishing line or take a dip. It is a great food source for locals and an experience for others. There is an annual fishing event...More

No, all the tours start at Kaitaia and return in the late afternoon. There is plenty of time to walk out to the lighthouse on these trips and the BBQ on the beach before you get there is nice. We spoke to several people... More

This ninety miles beach literally is a "highway" where cars can run (allowed) up to 100km/h. Probably it is unwise to let the dog free running and playing without leash.
