I went with my parents, my Mom thought it was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. I found the tree beautiful. I am amazed at the age. Absolutely wonderful. If you decide to shop at the local shops, the circular complex to the right...More

Being from the east coast of Canada, my version of “big trees” is way off base. Some of our oldest trees are a few hundred years old, and are typically not as impressive as you would think. Those on the west coast have a better...More

I've heard of the large trees at the redwood forest in California but never been. They say this one is even bigger. Just as much as impressive as the trees is the landscape architecture of the town plaza. its such a pleasant, peaceful little town...More

Von Humbolt wrote about it more than 200 years ago. You pay a couple of pesos to get up close and walk around it. And the area is full of small craft and souvenir shops -- quite touristy.

While the tree is worth a quick visit, be very careful! There are thieves! Our car was broken into and they stole everything! We reported it to the police, and although they had cameras there was nothing they would do to help us. I would...More

Stopped here on the way back to Oaxaca on a palenque tour. We didn't know about it beforehand, and it was actually pretty neat to see. It's hard to take a decent picture that really captures it when you're inside the little garden/park area where...More

This is a really quick visit to this most picturesque village, but I'm tempted to recommend it as a "must-see" while in Oaxaca. The ancient tree itself is stunning. It's almost a spiritual experience. Cortez was said to have spent the night under this tree...More

Not much really. Unless you want to see the small shops around. There's only the tree and the chapel. But the town is like all other towns, so you can look around if you want. Have fun on the trip!
