- Oliver SNew York City, New York11,509 contributionsFor the Commissario Fans onlyThe series were a huge success in Europe, but are little known in the States (MHZ was the only place to find them streamed). Based on the popular Camilleri intriguing and thought provoking human interest stories, they ran for over ten years. The house however is of nominal interest, nothing but the outside and the newly created touristy cafe right next to it. If you are a fan of the series, take a picture and go have lunch at one of the multiple seafood places in Marina di Ragusa. Our choice was Il Delfino (separate review)Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten September 27, 2023
- Barbara F96 contributionsMagical holidayWe had a wonderful week at Casa de Montalbano. Our room was perfect with a sea view. Breakfast every morning on the terrace. However, do be prepared to be photographed at any time of the day. You certainly get to know how celebrities feel. That was why we're stayed. Ate at several local restaurants. A Montalbano tour was organised through the owner. We visited all the pertinent locations. Slightly disappointed in the guide not speaking English not his fault our fault not speaking Italian. Lovely having a driver so no hassle parking. Thank you Sarah and Agatha for preparing breakfast and keeping the house free from the sand we brought in after being on the beach.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2023
- Brian O30 contributionsFor Montalbano fans a joy to stay here.As Montalbano fans it was a very special experience. I don't think you need more than one or possibly two nights. Otherwise it is good but not outstanding. The breakfast was quite ordinary and our room was very clean and pleasant. But for us it was a huge joy to stay here.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 3, 2024

The room was ok and the view fine. Sara, the girl who greeted us at breakfast was very nice and helpful. The terrace was lovely. It was interesting to stay in the house but rather over priced. Breakfast was average. Parking easy.

We travelled to the small town of Punta Secca having watched the Italian Crime Drama Inspector Montalbano. Punta Secca is a delightful place with modest but wonderfully displayed buildings including the fictional Inspector's house which is a B&B (we didn't venture inside). The atmosphere was relaxed and not ultra touristy - this felt like a onetime Sicilian fishing village albeit dressed up to perfection. The beaches were charming and it is a pleasant destination for a short visit and stroll whether you are a fan of the Inspector or not. Nicer than we expected.

Didn't stay there - sorry! - but touring Sicily in a hire car all around the coast meant (1,200 miles in 14 days, seven hotels!) that we just passed through and took lots of pictures. Beach very busy, MUCH busier than in the detective series. Nice little Sicilian town. Parking the usual pain! May consider staying there, the place has much to commend it.

What could be more iconic of Montalbano than the house with the balcony and the beach. We drove from Syracuse to see it and were not in the least disappointed, though we were lucky enough to see him and Livia on the balcony as they were filming another episode, We also got to talk to him later in the day.
Excluding all this the house and its surroundings were good to seeas was the blue and yellow restaurant, which was unfortunately closed, but it was good to swim from "his" beach and more Montalbano sites are not far away in Ragusa.
A must for fans of the bald commissario but not really worth it otherwise. We were ther in mid June and it was getting hot, around 29 degrees.

Worth spending half an hour at the film location of inspector Montalbano's house. Whilst we were there filming was taking place at the house which initially was disappointing as the film crew would not let us anywhere near but with patience we managed to get some photographs of the house. We were lucky however to actually see the actor and also managed a photo of him much to the annoyance of the film crew. Good to visit if you watch the programme.

In February of this year I had the misfortune to book a weeks stay in Casa di Montabano being English and being someone who does not watch BBC4 I did not realise the alleged importance of this B & B but more of that later.
In June I was notified that there could be a potential problem with my booking because now as it is all unfolding the production company that films this program might I stress might require the property during October for filming but would confirm if it was required in the summer.
One’s first response was “sorry where was this in the contract or anywhere on your web site” okay to cover themselves they did say shall we book you elsewhere but you know what its like when you believe that you have found something that ticks all the boxes, so obviously our reply was well lets wait and see as nothing was definite only they might.
So far so good summer has now passed we are in September and no news is good news as they say! Then lo and behold twenty days yes twenty days before our holiday apparently they want the B & B too allegedly film.
Now we all live in the real world and no production company has a twenty day lead time, in England its four months this I know for a fact.
Now comes the beut!! They wanted to offer us hotels as a substitute I said as one would if we wanted to stay in a hotel we would have booked a hotel. No we said any substitution should be like for like and any difference in price should be meet by you.
Well on that remark that was it they didn’t want to know. I could go on but as you have surmised they couldn’t give a damm all they wanted was to give us our money back.
The moral of this story is let them enjoy the big bucks that the production company are paying them but eventually the series will have run its course and hopefully people will remember their total disregard to the customer that’s you and I that book all year round and hopefully in future customers will frequent establishments that still offer loyalty and still appreciate their customers. Not the fair weather establishment of Case di Montabano ( I wonder what it will be called in 5 years time) apparently there is a rumour that they might move to Puglia if that happens or the series ends then this establishment will be begging people to come and stay but hopefully the general public will have very long memories.

I’d like to start by saying that we didn’t know anything about the TV show before we booked to stay in this B&B - but I’d be lying. Of course we did - that’s why we came here. Having watched the subtitled version in England we fell in love with the area and characters portrayed. Stepping through the front door you immediately feel you are on set with Montalbano - everything is as you remember from the show. This does mean that the furniture and decor is what you would find in a typical Sicilian home rather than the upmarket hotel style you would get elsewhere - but that isn’t why you would come here. We stayed in the 1st floor ‘Scirocco’ room which is large, comfortable and has access to the terrace where, like Salvo, you will have your coffee and pastries in the morning. The hosts were very welcoming and kept us informed all the way through from the initial booking to our arrival. There is a wide range of bars, cafes and good restaurants within walking distance and of course you are only a few steps from the beach. We loved our stay and would definitely return.

As a holiday destination this area is on the coast so it’s got a beautiful beach and restaurants, but what makes this area just that little bit more special is the home of the fictional character Inspector Montalbano, with the home overlooking the sea where he has his morning swim, the building is a B&B so you can stay here if you wish, but as for me it was more about seeing for myself what a lovely area this is and to see where the programs are filmed, there are some lovely modern statues to Andrea Camilleri the creator, and two more one of Salvo and one of Livia are in the area, all in all a very enjoyable visit.

Just stayed here for four nights to celebrate my wife's birthday and we were not disappointed! The host Maria couldn't have been more friendlier and helpful and the view from the balcony of this gorgeous Sicilian seaside town of Punta Secca is wonderfully romantic and peaceful once the tourists have left. Breakfast is served daily on the balcony and our room also had a sea view and you can hear the waves laid in your bed at night.
A great place to spend time sunbathing on the beach or visiting the most beautiful Sicilian countryside and wonderfully preserved churches and baroque architecture around the area with Sagusa being a must for visitors.
There are a number of restaraunts close by, and if you fancy being a famous Italian detective for a few days, this place is for you.
Great memories and thanks for the wonderful hospitality.

È comunque tutto in piano, senza ostacoli evidenti.

My wife and I willbe staying in Palermo for two weeks in April. We would like to visit Montalbano's house and the police station - do you have any advice about getting there from Palermo by train or bus. We will stay overnight before returning to Palermo.
Written February 28, 2017
Dear aytonmel4,
Montalbano house is a B&B, so only te guests of the house are allowed in. I am afraid is not possible to visit the inside, however you can steel see it from outside and enjoy the fantastic landscape.
I have to inform you that in April the Tv production will film the new episodes of the series so is possible that some areas in Puntasecca will be closed to the public.
Said so Palermo is very far away from Puntasecca, is about 4h and 30 minutes. You will need to catch a bus till Ragusa and than in Ragusa you need to catch an other bus to Puntasecca.
Than you need to reach Scicli(20 minutes far way) for the commissioner room, I suggest you to overnight at least 2 days.
