Farewell Spit Eco Tours began in 1946 as the mail delivery to the lighthouse keepers on Farewell spit. Farewell Spit is a nature reserve and bird sanctuary. Summer home to wading birds from the Arctic and also a growing Gannet colony near the end. Our hand picked local guides love to share their knowledge with people from all over the world, many of whom return on subsequent visits to our country.

Whilst not an exciting adventure, this was a really pleasant day out to a place travellers can't visit independently. Interesting history and beautiful scenery. The tour guide was knowledgeable and kept us entertained. Such a beautiful area and definitely worth doing.

We absolutely loved this experience - all 6 hours of it. The scenery was spectacular, the bus was comfortable and the fun was stopping on a whim to explore something interesting to one of the passengers.

This is a fabulous tour which takes you the full length of Farewell Spit at the top of New Zealand's South Island. According to our tour driver, it's either windy or very windy on the spit and we struck a perfect day with no wind!...More

Farewell Spit Eco Tours is the only commercial company authorised to drive the length of the spit so we felt lucky to go where most other people cannot go. Our trip left Collingwood at 1.30 (it is dependent on tides). Our driver was cheerful and...More
