Calm water, sandy beach that was easy to stroll. Cool Canada Day weekend, not a soul in sight made this visit quote enjoyable.

Spectacular Lake Superior beach, great for strolls. Parking lot open when we visited in April 2024, but visitor center and outhouses were closed.

We were camping at Pancake Bay and come down mostly just to see the park. We had a fairly short visit. Walked down the beach and sat on one of the picnic tables to enjoy the views for a bit. A nice option as a picnic/swim/rest area if you are just traveling through, but Pancake Bay was a nicer beach for a longer visit. The building and bathrooms have seen better days.

Stopped at the tourist info to take a break from driving. Washrooms filthy - graffiti, no toilet paper, no hand soap - even the dispensers are missing, no paper towel.

That said, beautiful views of the lake and the sand is nice

This is a fantastic park to visit for the day. It’s clean and very accessible to all. They have picnic tables and great parking. You are so close to the water and can sit near your car so if you need things it’s easy to get them.

Batchawana Bay Provincial Park north of Sault Ste Marie is a day use park with a long expansive sandy beach on the shores of Lake Superior. It's perfect for a picnic which we had on benches beside the beach. During our walk on the beach with the great views of Lake Superior, we came across much driftwood that local have made crafts from.
The word Batchawana is from the Ojibwe “Badjiwanung” meaning water that bubbles up. This “bubbling” occurs between Sand Point and Batchawana Island where a strong current and undertow results at the east side of the bay.

We sent for an afternoon as a change of pace while staying at Pancake Bay Provincial Park. The beach is lovely and the water is shallow enough with a gentle drop off for swimming of all ages. A really nice way to spend an afternoon, even if you are just passing by.

Spent a week on the bay, gorgeous shallow sandy water, no weeds, can walk for miles. Great for kids. Very clean. Protected bay keeps the water warmer than along the coast. Love the area and will definately be back.

This is an excellent place to rest up. They opened up the visitor centre washrooms 24/7 for truckers, and the building itself is open and it serves as a warm refuge during inclement winter weather. So we see trucks parked there resting for the day. Can't choose a better spot for truckers to sleep on with the sound of crashing waves as their lullaby!

We were also able to enjoy the beauty of the Lake Superior shoreline without paying. I think the park permit applies only if you go beyond the main parking lot. The instructions were not clear enough, and I wasn't able to see any pay stations in the main parking lot either.
