Visited this island for Mazu Temple during peak period. Very packed with people during peak period. Must take care of personal belongings.

This was supposed to be the highlight of our trip, but when we finally made it here, we were sad to see how much capitalism had crept into the area. I get it - tourism is where most of these folks get their money. Great,...More

This island is very popular due to the Mazu Temple which is located on this island. Many people will come over here to pray especially during the Mazu festival. Beside the local Chinese, the Taiwanese will come here too by boat from Taiwan island and...More

A big monastery with a few beautiful sights. Very spiritual place. Restaurants owners a bit annoying, but that's OK. A MUST visit if in Putian!

Went to the island for the celebration of the Goddess Matsu. It was rammed as it was also a public holiday. A massive amazing site. Fantastic temples and shrines. There's a lot steps and walking to cover the whole site. There are buses and electric...More

If you're staying in Putian, this is definitely worth doing. If you don't speak Chinese, then do this with a translator or guide.

I love to understand (or at least try to) local culture and how humans deal with life and environment. This place reflects something different from common western eyes of the way of seeing things: the center of whole island is a temple to a female...More

Mazu temple is one of the place you have to go when you're traveling in Fujian Putian. Mazu is a very important and historic figure in Putian's people's heart.

The Mazu Temple here is incredible. The people are very friendly and there are couple of nice beaches. Otherwise, there is very little on Meizhou. I absolutely recommend it for the temple, but that's it.
