Oct. 2019 • Friends
Fantastic tour of the Knockdhu distillery with Lorraine we enjoyed it so much we took friends and family the next week a real treat all manual traditional small distillery with amazing whisky a real hidden Gem of of the Secret malts of Aberdeenshire. Advise do take cash as purchase of whisky is cash only and you won't come away without a bottle or two! Email or phone to book.

This distillery is well tucked out of the way in the valley, not far from Cardhu. You are advised to go there to try the whisky . This site has preserved the old railway sidings. Basically, unless you book a tour , visitors are not welcome .

Distillery tour
Aug. 2019 • Solo
A very small and very traditional distillery that unusually does not charge for visits but encourages a charity donation instead. The tour is very informative though it doesn’t flow as well as some because of the layout. Tastings take place in the boardroom and bottles can be purchased but for cash only .

First Scottish Distillery Tour

We’re actually just back from this tour. I found it on trip advisor and it beautifully delivered. We phoned to book on the tour on the same day. We were a party of three were surrounded by the most delightful dogs there. Lorraine our tour guide gave us the most passionate tour of the distillery. Funny, informative, she even recommended other distilleries to visit. We gained great incite, also Ian was a pleasure he popped in and out to chat. Just a complete delight. Highly recommend this tour, my Irish boyfriend loved it. We also got to take samples away with us which Lorraine picked. The tour is free but the distillery welcomes donations which we happily left.

A must see. Thank you.

Unexpected pleasure

Staying in Portgordon, it's actually our landlord who suggested to pay a visit to this distillery. He made the appointment and off we were. We had a private tour of the whole place by one of the members of staff, who had a great sense of humour and knew what she was talking about. Had two whiskies afterwards ... and were flabbergasted to hear that we did not have to pay anything. We happily donated for charity, though.

Lorraine gave us a tour of the distillery today and she was fantastic! We loved learning about the whole process from start to finish and seeing it in action. The members of staff who were on shift were so nice and the whiskey is amazing. This was the best tour we have been on. Highly recommended.

Excellent place to visit

We visited here on a cold windy October afternoon, we soon warmed up with the warm welcome we received. The tour was very interesting and gave us a great insight into how whisky is made. The tour guide she was very informative and had a great knowledge of the history and working of the distillery. Hats off to all the staff that have kept this a manual working distillery and may you have more years producing this iconic part of Scottish history.
Have taken some pics with our dog ‘bertie’ enjoying the tour as well .

Great distillery, fantastic staff

We arrived half an hour before our arranged time and were welcomed by Alastair with a warm cup of coffee and a few bits of shortbread while we waited for Lorraine to arrive. The manager, Gordon, sat with us for a while and gave us some of his unique wit and wisdom as we drank our coffee. Lorraine proved to be a fantastic host as she guided us through the distillery, pointing out some of the features that make the dram what it is. We met Ian several times on the tour and he was a great source of information as well as humour. A real hard worker too. The tasting session at the end of the tour didn’t dissapoint. And Gordon provided me with the answer to a question I have been asking at almost every distillery I visit, without finding an answer.
Thanks, to everyone for a very enjoyable visit.

If you only ever do one whisky distillery tour in your life, make it this one

I have been on several distillery tours, all of them very good, but this is in a class of its own. Knockdhu distillery, home of Cnocdhu single malt, is very pretty, small scale and old fashioned. It is someway away from Speyside and they are at pains to say they are highland not Speyside. They it is owned by Inver house. The whiskies are unfailingly well reviwed. There is no visitor centre as such, or shop selling whisky and gifts. You also need to book a slot for a tour in advance. So it’s not mainstream in the conventional sense. But what you get is far better. There is a real feeling here that the staff know what they are doing is unique and world class and they want to share it. There was an infectious, understated, pride and passion exuded during the tour by the tour guide and employees. They clearly really love making their whisky.

Fantastic distillery

We went here on a spur of the moment and so glad we did. There was only two of us and although we were out with tour times Lorraine our guide took us round anyway. Thouroghly enjoyed our tour and our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly plus we got a few drams at the end. The tour is free but you can donate money to one of their charities which are both very good causes. Recommend booking before hand as they run tours at 10am and 2pm. You can also take photos while you go around ( unlike the larger distilleries in the area) . If you are driving you get to take away samples which is recommend due to police patrolling the area. Although a small distillery it’s well worth the trip. May not show on some sat nav’s however if you put in the village of Knock you should get there.
