Situated in the city of Odawara in Kanagawa prefecture. It is a major landmark and is listed on the 100 fine castles of Japan. The surroundings of the castle include a large park area along with some museum's and small shrines. It is a historical monument. During the Sakura season, the park area offers a breathtaking view with the full... More

Nice rebuilt castle. Worth a visit if you're in the area on the way to Hakone since you have to change trains anyways. Nice photo op from outside. Panoramic from the 5th floor. Would have been really good if we caught cherry blossoms.

Lovely, white castle set high on a hill, so lots of steps to climb, but they're quite manageable. Besides, there's an ice-cream vendor, several vendors actually, one who sell delicious green-tea cones. There were lots of ninja warriors running around the day we visited and sweet Japanese Snow Monkeys in a large cage. Worth the visit.

We visited Odawara Castle on a day with heavy rain. The tourist flow was fairly light, thanks to the rain. Fortunately the cherry blossom in the surrounding park was in its prime, offering a picturesque view. The castle is very well maintained and equipped with quite good exhibitions, though not as big as the ones in Osaka or Nagoya. It's... More

This was our first Japanese castle so we loved it. It's one of the 100 Fine Castles of Japan, although it is a reconstruction, not the original. It is also one of the ten highest castles with good views from the top on a sunny day. Interesting history and monkeys in the huge 'cage' in the plaza.

Odawara Castle has a wonderful history of ninja and samurai. The castle itself is very beautiful especially during Hanami season. It is located not so far from the station. You can take you time to wonder aimlessly around the castle. You can also wear the samurai and ninja costume at a cheap price. The surrounding is breathtaking. Will definitely come... More

We visited on a very rainy day, the cherry blossoms were beautiful. There weren't very many tourists due to the weather. There is a small discount off the entrance fee if you show them the online coupon. Several different areas of interest, the castle tower with observation deck, samurai area and museum areas. There is not much in terms of... More

Odawara castle is unique in that it is so close to the ocean and for the modern traveler, it is only minutes from the JR station so it is very accessible. The main attraction in this area is not only this castle but Hakone area which is close to Odawara via a local train system.

The original castle was destroyed over many years in history but rebuilt in 1960 and refurbished in 2016. With this make over, it is now attracting many local tourists. This castle played a significant role in the Japanese Sumurai war era and this would be a must go place if you were a Japanese history lover (you can enjoy it... More
