Overview
More
Odawara Castle is a symbol of Odwara City. It was as an impregnable castle owned by the Hojo clan, the samurai family who governed Kanto region for about a century from the end of 15th century. Since then, the castle became a reserve for Hakone and Tokaido route and functioned as a cornerstone of defense in the region. The castle has reopened in May 2016 after the completion of a seismic retrofit and renewal of the exhibition inside.

Arriving at the station, we decided to go to the Odowara Castle, only 10 min walk. Ones we arrived, we say the beautiful castle. We were a little bit disappointed as it’s not an original castle. Nice to see, but that’s it. We were the...More

The inside of the castle is converted to a museum. It’s nice, but it’s just the same as the other castles in Japan. If you’ve never been to any castle in Japan maybe you should visit this castle but somehow if you’ve been to the...More

Odawara Castle is walking distance from the station. We were there killing time before our shinkansen to Osaka. Walking to Odawara Castle is a treat. Nice restaurants. There are tiles on the floor telling you you're near the castle. The place itself is big. You...More

A highlight of our trip to Odawara. This might sound obvious, but this is a real castle (rebuilt after an earthquake) on real castle grounds, which means it's not just the main building but the surrounding areas that are fascinating to explore, including a temple,...More

It is very beautiful in the sakura season with the white backdrop. It is recently rebuilt. Nothing much to see inside the building. But you can go to the top and see outside.

This rebuilt Castle stands on the foundations of an original shogun domain - destroyed by earthquake/fire in early 1900’s. The grounds are truly spectacular, especially during 🍒 blossom week which we were very fortunate to see. I would recommend this attraction for any age. I...More

We were having a wonderful time visiting the castle area up until we saw a small cage with lots of monkeys inside it. They looked sad and miserable and such cruelty made me want to cry. I wrote an email to the castle info team...More
