This shop is the one of historical houses in Kakunodate. It was built in Meiji era, more than 100 years before. They make and sell traditional Japanese seasoning like "miso" soy paste, "syoyu" soy sauce for nearly 170 years. Here you enjoy not only old Japanese style of warehouse and office which a prosperous merchant family owned but also souvenir... More

Andojyozo is a delightful gem located in the merchant's district of Kakunodate, about a 10-minute walk from the samurai area. The shop is located in a handsome old building (maybe a former temple?). It sells all kinds of interesting made-on-premises miso, shoyu, and spices. There are plenty of samples, enabling people (like me, for example) who can't read Japanese to... More
