On a long weekend in Lisbon this was a must visit. Unfortunately I was n crutches, waiting for a new hip, so wasn't very mobile but the museum offered me a wheelchair to use during my visit which made the whole occasion excellent.

Fascinating insight into the history of shipbuilding in the Lisbon area. A good trip from central Lisbon on the ferry. Walk along the quay has some excellent street art. Bankers eat your heart out!

A flat easy walk round from the ferry port turn right to pass the old wharf buildings now covered with street art. At the moment difficult to find out opening hours web page keeps referring back to maritime museum on Belem side. However open on Mondays and it is inexpensive. Photos and text describes the recent history of ship building and maintenance in this town. Explains the size of the lifting gantry labelled LISNAVE just beyond the turn in the tram tracks. Also good video of laying out the shape of a hull before casting into metal. The centre of Almada is almost all closed on Monday so better to go to another day when other sights are open. Take the elevator up to the town and easy walk downhill to the port or back past on the wharfside

You can find this museum if you walk along the wharf from the ferry landing in cacilhas. Enjoy the graffiti on the buildings as you walk along the waterfront with a scenic view of Lisbon. Pass through a couple of restaurants and a small park and you'll see the sign. The museum is free and covers the history of shipbuilding in the area.
