I honestly don't understand the buzz about Yufuin. It's fine if you are headed to an onsen but the town itself is nothing but a collection of trinket shops and food vendors. We had stayed at a ryokan nearby and visited Yufuin only because we...More

If you have a JR Rail pass, is a nice day trip from Fukuoka. I find Yufuin a charming little town with rows of endless shops to keep the ladies happy. We basically walked along the main road towards Kinrin Lake which took about 45...More

Super nice for a day trip from Fukuoka. We took the "Yufuin no mori" train and enjoyed a lovely day out! Spent some time walking the streets, at the lake, Bussanji and a private Onsen.

Although super overpopulated with Korean women in Japanese kimono taking selfies at every turn, there's a reason for the popularity of the Yufuin area. It's so beautiful and picturesque and has great shops and restaurants. A lovely day trip from Beppu or Oita and has...More

Many of my friends, both Japanese and foreigners, recommended a visit to Yufuin so I went. The bottom line is that it is absolutely overrated and not worth wasting your time. Here are some examples as to why: - All the hot springs (onsen) that...More

As you meander through the main street you begin to get a feel for this quaint, quintessentially Japanese town. Souvenir & food stops aplenty as my coach snakes its way thru.. Finally coming to a stop by the river at a public parking facility. Facing...More

It was a pleasant drive from Beppu through some winding B roads. Felt like Disneyland minus the rides. Pretty in the autumn Colours. Lots of street food and cake/dessert shops nestled amongst the usual souvenir shops. A little overrun by tourists (like myself!).

Can i have a vote on is Yufuin better or Beppu better? i will driving from Fukuoka and intend to stop 1 night at either Yufuin or Beppu before continuing my drive to Kurokawa n Mt Aso. I cant decide to chose beppu or Yufuin! help me! Not necessary to do onsen but would want to experience more traditional japan stay/feel.

both are great visits. Yufuin specialises in hot spring and more tourism developed. Beppu is a seaside town and has hot spring also, though not specialised in this. depends on your preference!

Can I leave a 30"inches luggage at a coin operated locker at JR station in Yufuin? Will it fit in the locker? Can anyone deposit luggage overnight there? I will arrive at Yufuin around 9am. I am afraid lockers may be full if overnight deposit of luggage is allowed.

local Japanese in Yufuin are friendly, suggest you to ask even if there is no locker available or suite your big luggage. Alternatively, there is an intercity bus stop just a couple of minutes walk in front of the JR... More
